Our first photography project was to represent the school through photographs, focusing on composition. I chose the commons as a theme for my work, and I used pictures that might not represent the school well to outsiders, but for the students of Inquiry Hub, these are recognisable details we see every day. My pictures are of keyboards, windows, desks and other details within the commons room. I chose to make them all black and white so I wouldn’t have to worry about colour.
For the composition aspect, I focused on using the rule of thirds, as well as experimented with symmetry in one of my shots. I tried to take good quality pictures. It took me a while to find nice places to photograph within the commons, but once I started focusing on the smaller details in the room, I found I could shift my attention to the composition of the photos instead of worrying about the subject.
